Oral maxillofacial surgery encompasses surgical operations executed by highly trained dental experts. Maxillofacial surgeries help treat diseases, cure injuries, correct deformities and malocclusions and achieve an aesthetic look. The disorders treated through the surgery affect the mouth, neck, maxilla region, face and head. OMS is often regarded as the bridge between surgery and dentistry.

Scope of oral maxillofacial surgery

OMS surgery focuses solely on the face and mouth cavity's hard bone and smooth muscle tissues. As a result, OMS surgeons are regarded as the dentistry profession's surgical specialities. As you might expect, most of their work is focused on surgical procedures. OMS procedures range from minor to complex surgeries. The more common and straightforward methods include dentoalveolar surgeries, for example, wisdom teeth and difficult teeth extractions, and dental implants.
