Why You Jaw May Hurt Following a Fall

There are many things that people do after they fall. They m8ay lay on the ground until someone helps them get up. They may stand back up and dust themselves off and go on with their day. The most common thing that people do after a fall is assess the damage to their body after the fall. One area that they may hurt is their jaw. This can happen for a few reasons, even if you do not hit the jaw when you fall. There are many ways that the fall can cause pain in the jaw both right after the fall and later.

Broken and Dislocated Jaws

The most obvious reason for pain in the jaw after a fall is that you had some type of traumatic injury. A broken or dislocated jaw can occur because of a fall. Depending on the severity of the injury, the amount and type of pain will vary. Pain could be constant and harsh, or it could occur when you try to move your jaw when eating or talking. If you have experienced trauma to your jaw or you feel pain in your jaw after a fall, it is best to find out if there is something that is causing the pain or any other symptoms such as swelling.

TMJ Disorders

The temporomandibular joint connects the jaw to the skull. If this joint is not function problem, it can cause pain. Like other jaw pain, that pain can persist, or it can occur intermittently. TMJ disorders can also take time to develop. You may not feel pain after a fall that is from TMJ. It may not happen until much later. This makes it hard to connect the pain in the jaw to the fall you had in the past.
Feeling pain in the jaw is never normal and is not something that you should ignore. If you have a fall and believe that your jaw may have had some type of trauma, it is best to get checked to make sure that there is nothing wrong. This is true even if you don't feel pain right after the fall.
