At some point, your jaw is going to hurt. When it does, it may be because you have a toothache. You might have scraped your face too hard while shaving. Perhaps you and your brother got into a fight, and you ended up with a sore jaw. While all of those conditions are temporary, there are times when your jaw is hurting, and you don't know why. What do you do when your jaw hurts? We have some answers. Sore JawThe most common reason you may have a sore jaw is because of your jaw joint. Your jaw joint is called a temporomandibular joint. The joint is unique in your body. It is actually a hinge joint, that allows your top and bottom jaws to slide around. There is a small disc of tissue that cushions your jaw joint and allows it to move make and forth easily. The problem comes when the disc of tissue becomes inflamed and doesn't allow your jaw to move as easily. There may be pain and swelling associated with the jaw joint as well. What Should I Do? If you are having jaw pain, you can try a couple of things on your own. Begin taking an anti-inflammatory to see if that will reduce your jaw pain. Also, you will need to put ice on your jaw joints to reduce swelling. Check for other symptoms of jaw problems. There are conditions you can have that might cause trouble for your jaw.
